and VFW Auxilary in Newark.
She
is survived by her daughter, Betty (James) Hunter of Bloomfield;
three grandchildren; one greatgranchild; nieces and nephews.
She
was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, in 1968; daughter
Nancy Vandenbeckens in 1999; son, Arthur in 2005 and companion
Al Bannatyne in 1998.

Joan
was born July 30, 1938 in Hamilton Square, NJ, daughter of Elijah
(E,C) and Florence Tindall Hutchinson. She had been involved
with Don Finewood's chainsaw service in the office. She had
been involved with the Began Family in Green Village, NJ and
assisted in the operation of Harrsch Frams roadside stand, starting
with the sale of chickens and eggs and moving to fruits and
vegetables and greenhouse plants. She moved to upstate New York
in 1970 to raise her family and and operate cash crops and a
sheep farm. She was married to Donald Fuinewood since 1999.
Her interests were spending time with her family, country music
and gardening.
She
is survived by her husband of9 1/2 years, Donald; four daughters,
Tammy Chisman and Erika (Jeffrey) Rice of Clyde, Brenda Groce
of Skaneateles; and Cynthia (John) Stein of Palmyra; stepsons,
Thomas (Martha) Finewood of Lyons and Don Jr. (Tammy Kowalski)
of Webster; eight grandchildren, Melissan, Bryan, Kristen, Taylor,
Kevin and Matthew, Fred and Connor; brother Elijah (Elizabeth)
Hutchinson Jr. of Princeton Junction NJ; two sisters, Karen
(Bob) Harvell of Port Orange Fla; and Deborah (Barry) Taylor
of Titusville NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was predeceased by her parents Elijah and Florence Hutchinson;
brother, Edgar and son-in-law John Groce.

Lyons
- Hortense E. Wasser, 93, died Sunday (Oct 5, 2008) with her
loving sons, John and Tom, be her bedside as she peacefully
closed her eyes and was received by the Lord.
Friends
may call from 9:30 to 11am Thursday at the Boeheim-Pusateri
Funeral Home, 77 William St, Lyons. Services will immediately
follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Bailey presiding.
Burial will be in the Lyons Rural Cemetery.
In

Lutheran Church, Spencer Street, Lyons or the charity of one's
choice.
Hortense
was born Jan 26, 1915, in Lyons. She was the daughter of Seymour
J. and Jane E, Manizer Reynolds. In her earlier years, she worked
at Newark State School, the National Biscuit Co., and the Barber
Hospital. She also worked at the Lyons physicians office for
10 years. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church,
a 50-year member of Humanity Chapter of O.E.S and a member of
Lyons Senior Citizens.
She
is survived by her two sons, John B. (Dana) Wasser of Port Nechesm
Texas and Thomas (Jane Spiwak) Wasser of Lyons; four grandsons,
Aaron, Eric, Brian (Danielle) and Ryan Wasser; two greatgrandaughters,
Ava Lea and Abigail Lorene Wasser; one nephew, Keith Reynolds;
and special friend Mirta Barrios of Naple, Fla.
She
was predeceased by her husband, Dean L. in January 1958 and
her grandson, Clinton in August 2005.
Hortense's
family members wish to express their grateful appreciation to
her many friends for their years of love and support.

2, 2008) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Les
was born in Pittsfield, Mass, on Oct 1, 1920, son of Carlyle
and Charlotte Moorre Morse. He was a mechanical engineer for
Parker Hannifin Co, and was a fruit farmer. He served in World
War II in Okinawa in the Army. He was a member of Grace Church,
the Finger Lakes stamp club, and a former member of the Kiwanis
club in Ohio.
He
is survuved by his longtime companion, Agnes Proseus, two sons,
David (Kolleen) of Rochester and Christopher of Fairport; two
daughters Sheila (Jay) Morse of Arizona and Dana (Alvin Lamb)
Hartranft of Newark; two sisters, Marion (Rob) Bardof Arizona
and Grace Clish of Washington D.C; six grandchildren, Timothy
(Amanda), Brian (Jessica), Joseph, Emily, Lindsay, and Heather;
three great grandchildren, Ayden, Tyler and Emily and nieces
and nephews.
He
was predeceased by his brother Stanley in 1980.

(Judy)of Arcadia, Calif; brother, Richard Hilfiker of Lyons;
and three granddaughters, Amanda, Amy and Anna.
She

- Lucy M. Laird, 90, of Prospect Street, died Tuesday (Sept.
16, 2008) at Newark Wayne Hospital.

Lucy
was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Lyons, daughter of Mark and Elizabeth
Vona Blanche. She worked for Newark Developmental Center, retiring
in 1980. In her earlier years, she worked at Dromedary &
National Biscuit Co. in Lyons. She was a member of St. Patrick's
Church in Savannah.
She
is survived by her daughter Betty (Tony) Loder; son Dale (Sylvia)
Laird, both of Clyde; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Loder of
Newark, Laurie Ann DiSanto of Clyde, Jacqueline Fitch and Victoria
Hess; six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She
was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, in 1997.

Reverend Gerald H. Harris, 78 , of West Maple Avenue, died Sunday
September 1, 2008 at home with his family surrounding him with
so much love.

Church, 5694 Wood Lane, Newark where services will be held Saturday
(September 6) at 2 pm at Woodlane Community Church. Burial will
be in Fairville Cemetery with full military rites accorded.

Jerry
was born on August 2, 1930 in Moline, Ill., son of Clarence
and Ruth Hulquist Harris.
He
graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, Ill. and received
his Master of Divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity
School and was ordained as an American Baptist Minister at the
First Baptist Church, Peoria, Illinois on May 12, 1968. He spent
most of his entire ministry in Upstate New York, serving Fairville
Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of West Walworth,
First Baptist Church, Newark NY and Woodlane Community Church.
He
joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1948 and served 6 years.
He was a Korean War Veteran with the 1st Marine Division.
He
was past President of the Newak Chamber of Commerce, the Wayne
Baptist Association and Habitat for Humanity. He was Chaplain
and lifetime member of the Fairville Fire Department, Chaplain
of the West Walworth Fire Department and Chaplain of the Civil
War Air Patrol. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, member
of the Newark Kiwanis Club, and the Finger Lakes Stamp Club.
He was a certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor for FLACRA and
the former director of the Employee Assistance Program of the
Nestle's Corp and former director of the Foster Grandparent
program in Newark NY. He was also associated with the Boy Scouts.
Music
was a big part of his life. He played 1st trumpet in his high
school band. He graduated from the Navy School of Music, in
Washington, D.C. He was a member of the United States Marine
Corp Band and played at the inauguration of Harry S. Truman.
After serving his country, he formed a dance band, The Rythmarines.
His hobbies included metal detecting, stamp collecting, wood
crafts, making grapevine wreaths, playing Yahtzee and traveling.
Accompanied by his wife, they traveled to 49 states. They especially
enjoyed their two trips to Hawaii, their trip to Switzerland
and Italy. Many trips were made to Canada and their favorite
spot was Myrtle Beach.
He
was strong in his faith and his spirit and joy touched so many
lives. His example of love and faith in God is a gift his family
and friends will cherish forever. He was fun loving and loved
God, his family, his country and the USMC - Semper Fi!
He
is survived by his beloved wife of 59 1/2 years Joan Reiman
Harris, his partner in ministry, two daughters, Debra (Kenneth)
Herd, and Lori Randolph of Newark. His loving grandchildren,
Jeremy and David (Stephanie) Randolph, Jennifer (Scott) Lester,
Daniel (Alani) Herd, Amy (Justin) Farrar, great-grandchildren,
Zachary & Lucas Herd, Ryan and Emily Lester, Arianna Farrar,
Nathan Randolph and Kylie Johnson, sisters Donna (Bob) Norman
of Illinois, Doris (Dave) Kamrowski of Arizona; brother Warren
(Pat) Harris of Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. He will
be greatly missed by his extended family, Katie Randolph, Frank
and Vickie Winkler, Dan and Kate Winkler and Todd and Briana
Stewart.

Gabriel F. Gabe "Mayor" Vardabash, 85, died August
20, 2008.

Gabe
served as the Village of Lyons Trustee from April 1956 to March
1966 and became Mayor of Lyons in April 1985 to March 1997.
He ran a grocery store for 30 years and also worked at Losons
in Lyons for 15 years. He served in the Army from April 1942
to September 1946 in the 204th Battalion. He was a long time
Democrat and served on the Town and County level. He was nominated
Citizen of the Year in 1992, a member of the VFW and the American
Legion, as well as the Lyons Fire Department.
Gabe
is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Betty Jane Mullins
Vardabash; two sons, Louis (Krista) of Fairport; Gary of Rochester;
2 step-daughters, Toni Prutzman and Linda Parker of Lyons; 7
Step Grandchildren; 2 Step Great-Grandchildren; 3 Sisters; Lou
Cerio, Rose Sollenne of Geneva, Louis Cook of Canandaigua; sister-in-law
Louis Petrus of Lyons.
He
was predeceased by his first wife Mae Petrus Vardabash in 1966;
sisters Laura, Daisy, Elizabeth, Dolly, Lena; and brothers Frank,
Patrick and James.

of South Butler, Dennis Simmons of Sodus Point and Andy Simmons

Jim
was born March 29, 1922, in Seneca Falls, the son of Howard
Thomas and Julia White Magill. He was a 1939 graduate of Holy
Family High School in Auburn. He received a bachelor's degree
srom St. Bonaventure University and a master's degree from the
University of Rochester. He retired in 1977 from a position
as an English instructor at Lyons High School. He taught for
30 years. He served on the Lyons Village Zoning Board of Appeals
as a member and as chairman. He had been a member of the Town
of Lyons Board of Assessors and had earned N.Y.S Professional
Assessor designation. He was active in duplicate bridge circles
and had achieved the status of American Contract Bridge League
Life Master. He was a certified ACBL game director. He was active
in Elderhostel with Mrs. Magill, including three programs on
the Hawaiian Islands. He and his wife were co-chairs of the
Lyons Chapter of the American Field Service for a year and hosted
a foreign exchange student. He held an extra class amateur radio
license (Kx2t). He was a member of St. Michael's Church. He
had been a cancer survivor and was one of the last survivors
of those who contracted polio during the epidemic of the early
1920's.
He
is survived by his wife of 58 years on Aug 12, Jean Bennett
Magill; two daughters, Eileen VanNorman of Newark and Katherine
(Dennis) Alvaro of Lyons; two granddaughters, Adrienne and Meridith
Alvaro; sister, Julia Gagnier of Auburn; nieces and nephews
and sister-in-law, Marie Magill.
He
was predeceased by his sister, Joan Gawlicky; brothers,Peter,
Paul and Thomas Magill; son-in-law Fred VanNorman.

Herb
was born March 7, 1918 in Akeley, Minn, son of Axel C. and Pearl
Sutliff Olson. Herb farmed outside of lyons for over 50 years,
raising beef, pork and raw crops. Herb was a World War II veteran,
serving in 1942 throuhg Normandy Invasion to the Battle of Metz
with the 90th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart
and Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in
Lyons, American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Sons
of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He
is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Petrus Olson; three
sons, Thomas of Groton, Daniel (Patricia) and Steven (Susan)
of Lyons; nine grandchildren, Bryan, Mary, Kristen, Laura, Anthony,
Elizabeth, Erik, Jay and Justin; two sisters, Marian Hruby-Goodrich
of Minnesota and Barbara Salton of Spencer, Iowa; three brothers,
Charles of West Union, Iowa, Dean of Sheldon Iowa and Palmer
of Storm Lake, Iowa.
He
was predeceased by three sisters, Theone Harris, Phyllis Goebel
and Deltha Barber. Herbert was the oldest of nine children.

Louis
was born September 15, 1937 to Otto and Beatrice Brown Jendrick.
He was a member of AA where he had many friends.
He
is survivied by his wife of 13 years, Ruth; four children, David
(Linda), Wendy, Lori and Cindy Jendrick; six Fleisher stepchildren,
Christina, Joe (Janet), Amy (Joe), Dan (Claire), Katie (Scott)
and David (Falisha); and many grandchildren.
